My life was good, I was married to a good guy.  A military guy. He never talked to his family I never really asked why.  I do know he had a brother who was two years older than him.  We had been married three months before he got shipped off to war.  A week after I found out I was pregnant. On my 6 month check up as I was leaving I got a call from the military telling me there had been a ambush and my husband didn’t make it.  I cried all night holding my belly and telling my baby boy all about his dad.  The following week I went through all his things to locate a number or address to inform his family.  Once I found the address I sent off the letter.  

My son is now almost a year old and I still haven’t heard from his father’s family.  Maybe I didn’t have the right address.  Maybe they really didn’t care. But they were missing out not me!   I had a few things I needed for little Leighton jr’s party so I was shopping when I ran straight into what I thought was a break wall but was a guy who looked like Leighton.   


I looked at her and shook my head.  I wasn’t here to be nice I wanted my nephew and I was here to take him and raise him how my brother would have wanted according to his last letter I received he wasn’t happy with his so called church wife. When I found out she was pregnant with my nephew I had to find her.

“Damn you really are drunk” I laughed and sat there “alright roll over and sleep. You won’t die, and if you do then I’ll make sure your ashes are scattered over my garden.”

I smiled and hiccuped again. “That’s sweet of you. It would be a wonderful place to rest.” I rolled over and wrapped my arms around him. “Just make sure Leighton has a good life and that he thinks your his daddy if I die please.”

I rolled my eyes “You’re not going to die. And I’m pretty sure he already thinks that.” I laughed brushing my fingers through her hair until she fell asleep. I stayed there for hours, watching her and realising I was falling for her. It was wrong. I shouldn’t even have these thoughts. I checked on Leighton and placed a glass of water with an aspirin on the table for her when she woke then I went to my room and finally fell asleep

I woke feeling sick.  I couldn’t remember why.  I got up and saw medicine on my table and took it.  Then got Leighton up and fed.  After a while we went out to swim my head feeling better but I was still confused.  I saw movement from the house and sighed.  I needed to apologize for yesterday and what I- oh god!  He walked out into the kitchen in a towel! I sat there and felt like a perv watching him.  I had to run my thighs togerher.

I turned with my coffee “what’s up? See a spider?” O smirked. “Want one? How’s the head this morning. I bet throbbing.” I winked making her a drink

I watched him.  “My Head is okay actually the medcince you left helped, although I’m not a hundred percent on what happened last night I remember reading and finding juice which I now know is not juice!  I remember taking to you and it get as if someone played with my hair all night but that’s all!”  I took the coffee and moaned as it hit my lips.  I then looked at him again and “wow.” Escaped my lips.

“Relax and slow down. Yes you found some strong juice, and passed out after assuming you were going to die.” I laughed, watching her. “Which, like I told you and you can see for yourself, you’re awake now”. I winked.

I sighed glad he didn’t realize I was checking him out.  Although staring right now probably doesn’t help but I just can’t take my eyes off him.  Him and his abs.  I thought he was saying something more but I wasn’t paying attention.  But little leightons voice broke me.  “Dada!  Dada swim!”

I laughed, glancing outside “I have a couple calls to make and then we can go swimming,” I said but had my eyes still on her because her eyes were either on my dock or chest. I couldn’t tell. “If you want a closer look all you have to do is ask.” I winked.

I snapped out of it and smiled back at him. “If it’s anything like your brothers I’m not missing much!” I winked back and got up to take Leighton and my coffee out to the pool side. If he was going to throw comments like that out I was going to throw them back!

I had to laugh, my brother had nothing on me. I got dressed and made my calls. Spending the morning in my office drawing up plans and going over red tape. I walked out and seem then still out by the pool “how about we go to the zoo?”

My eyes widened! “Really! We have never been! Well I had the opportunity to go once but I got sick and couldn’t go!” I was already up and heading to get us both changed and ready . “Give is a few minutes!”

I drove us to the zoo, and paid for us all. We went into the zoo and Leighton was already excitedly pointing to the lions. “Someone is so excited!”

I smiled. “We both are oh my god seriously lions! Oh I want to see giraffes! I love them!!” I said running off with Leighton and Brody following after me. As I got up to the lions I gasped. “Wow they are so beautiful!”

“Yes and I’m sure you’d think that when being mauled by one too.” I laughed, shaking my head. I picked up Leighton and put him on my shoulders “what do you think, you want a pet cat for home?” I pointed, to another big lion.

I looked at him. Was he serious. “When I get my own place I want a farm for him.” I smiled. “Wishful thinking huh.” I looked at Leighton then at Brody. I smiled and then a little old lady with what looked like her grandchild stopped. “Oh what a handsome little boy, he looks just like his daddy, your a lucky lady.” I blushed hard.

“I guess it’s easy for people to assume when they don’t know about my brother and our looks.” I didn’t take any offence to it. “He can eat icecream right? We should get some up ahead.”

I nodded “yeah he can.” It kind of hurt that he didn’t just let her comment go and had to mention his brother. “I’m you two go ahead I’m gonna stop and use the restroom.” I had to wipe my eyes. As I stood in the restroom I sighed and then went to find them when I got closer I saw some hot lady talking to him and getting in leightons face. Great. “Excuse me my son doesn’t like people in his face.” I said taking him a little annoyed.

I looked at her and shrugged at the woman, clearly she wasn’t impressed. I brought them icecream and walked around some more. “We should go on the train? Could be fun yeah?”

I shrugged not really in the mood now. I just wanted to see Leighton have a good time. “Leighton do you want to go on the train?” He clapped his little hands in my arms. “Okay I guess we are going on the train.”

“Why are you so unhappy? You’re literally the most saddest person at the zoo right now.” I asked after we boarded to do a trip around the zoo. “Is it because I gave him icecream?”

I looked st him. “No he can have ice cream.” I said not wanting to answer him but decided it mad me mad so I should let him know. “That woman was all up in his face. I did t like it.” I said okay so I’ll tell him half the truth of that in fact I didn’t like how he gave her attention. “I mean I don’t care how beautiful she was that doesn’t give her the right to step in like that!”

“Step in? She just said I had a cute son and I told her he had his mother’s looks.” I wondered if she was jealous, because another woman was close to me. “Anyway, you scared her off so it doesn’t matter.” Inwinked

I looked at Leighton. “We both know he looks nothing like me.” I watched as we passed some monkeys. “Besides I didn’t scare her off she was absolutely beautiful to my plan Jane looks. I bet she doesn’t revenge have a small stretch mark!” I sighed shaking my head way to keep it cool. “Sorry I don’t know why I’m so upset.”

“Well you obviously are too harsh on yourself. You shouldnt be, you’re beautiful as is.” I couldn’t believe she didn’t think that about herself. She was. “Oh look, elephants!”
