My life was good, I was married to a good guy.  A military guy. He never talked to his family I never really asked why.  I do know he had a brother who was two years older than him.  We had been married three months before he got shipped off to war.  A week after I found out I was pregnant. On my 6 month check up as I was leaving I got a call from the military telling me there had been a ambush and my husband didn’t make it.  I cried all night holding my belly and telling my baby boy all about his dad.  The following week I went through all his things to locate a number or address to inform his family.  Once I found the address I sent off the letter.  

My son is now almost a year old and I still haven’t heard from his father’s family.  Maybe I didn’t have the right address.  Maybe they really didn’t care. But they were missing out not me!   I had a few things I needed for little Leighton jr’s party so I was shopping when I ran straight into what I thought was a break wall but was a guy who looked like Leighton.   


I looked at her and shook my head.  I wasn’t here to be nice I wanted my nephew and I was here to take him and raise him how my brother would have wanted according to his last letter I received he wasn’t happy with his so called church wife. When I found out she was pregnant with my nephew I had to find her.

I opened the door. “Shhh Leighton just fell asleep.” I moved so he could come in. “You want tea?” I asked not knowing what he was going to say hell at me for how I talked or what. I went and started tea before he could answer I turned and looked at him. “I’m sorry if I was rude to your friend but I didn’t appreciate how he talked to me and I’m not like woman y’all are use to. I’m me and I care how I present myself in a more catering way than how much I have way.”

“You talk too much.” I winked placing a finger against her lip to silence her “I threw him out, he won’t be back here bothering you again. Even I have standards and would never say things like that to a woman unless she was naked beneath me and I was telling her everything I’m about to do to her.” I moved my hand and went to sit down “tea is good thanks.”

I brought the tea over and handed him his as I sat down with mine. “I’m why do you feel the need to share that info about you and um well you know?” I couldn’t even say woman under him it left a bad taste in my mouth. The more I talk to him the more he stands out and I don’t know if I like it.

“Just being honest I guess.” I shrugged leaning back. “Joe do you like being here? Bored? Hate it? Do you have everything you both need?”

I looked out the window then at him. “I keep myself busy, even thought I haven’t been able to do any school work because I normally would go to the library with Leighton to get on the computer. And do my work. I didn’t know if I was allowed to call my professors or not, but I ugh did when you were at work and they told me to get the assignments to them as quickly as I could. I didn’t mention anything so don’t worry, just said I had to leave arruptly and that I was with Leighton's father’s family.” I wouldn’t lie that is the truth. “It’s not that I hate it it’s just not me you know. Leighton loves all the toys you got him and loves going out in the yard to play.”

“You don’t have to hide that you called. I know you did, they called back and asked for the address to send some other books, so I gave it to them.” I looked at her “am I really that scary to you? I’m not going to get mad because you mad a phone call to school.”

I smiled and gave him a little shove. “Your not scary, I just don’t know what I’m aloud to do or not, never been in a situation like this.” I looked at him and shook my head. “Thank you that was nice of you to do. But could I go to the library to do my assignments I need the computers plus it’s cheap to print there!” I said with excitement. “And I could rent books for Leighton he loves when I read to him!”

“I have a library here.” I thought I showed her that. “It’s up to you, I’ve got a computer and printer that you don’t need to pay for.” She was very different to me, needing the absolute bare minimum

“Oh, I didn’t even think of it to ask if I could use your things like that. Well thank you I appreciate it.” I took a sip of tea and laid my head back. The I heard Leighton. “Oh well I better get him, that wasn’t a long nap I hope he is okay.” I got up and went to get him he was really crying. Ah heck. I got him and ran to the bathroom turning the water on and forgetting about Brody here I was soaked again with Leighton in the tub cooling him.

I walked in leaning against the door frame “is he ok? Does he need a doctor at all?” I wasn’t sure what to do, and it was hard to focus with her looking like that

I sighed. “We have the same condition, sometimes our heart doesn’t pump as well, one foster family who was going to adopt me, took me to the doctors and they Found our that I was damage so they gave me back to the system. With all what the doctors said there was nothing they can do when our hearts pump harder our body overheats and we need cooled down right away. This always helped me when I was young.” I sighed an dkissed Leighton as I held him.

“So nothing can be done?” I asked concerned. “We should get him seen by a specialist. Just to make sure because this has happened four times in under a month and that doesn’t sit well with
Me.” I said bending down low beside her. “Just to make sure.”

I looked up at him. “Okay.” I said hating what was coming next. “I don’t have insurance but I’ll pay you back any way I can.” I hated this. But he was right he was having more episodes. “When can we go?”

“I’ll call my doctor in the morning and see when we can get in.” I didn’t comment on the insurance, not wanting her to feel worse than she probably did. “Pay me back by cooking me those pancake cheesecake things you made last week.” I smiled.

I smiled. “Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, orange or pineapple?” I asked “or all I love those too they are all so good!” Leighton was back to sleeping on me peacefully. I put my hand on Brody’s “seriously thank you for caring about Leighton to want to get him checked I really appreciate it Brody.”

I shrugged “well if my dick of a brother isn’t around to help then the least I can do is step up and make sure you both have all you need. I did kidnap you after all.” I half smirked and glanced down st her hand. Just her touch sent electricity though me like I’ve never felt before.

I sighed removing my hand. That’s right all men don’t care even this one. He is only doing what he is because of his brothers wish. “I should get him dry and changed put back down and start on lunch.” I looked at him “well you be joining us for lunch?”

I glanced at my watch “Umm sure, I’ll be in my office until then so let me know when it’s ready and I’ll come down.” I told her and stood up. I had to hide this hard on and rub one out. “Anyway, glad he’s ok.” I turned and walked out, bumping into the table on my way and rushing off

I got out and got him dressed and laid him down I looked for something to make deciding on something a little simpler and did a roasted chicken with vegetables. I made all kinds of cheesecake roll ups for him and while the chicken and vegetables were finishing up I got dressed in some yoga pants and a off the shoulder shirt. I should wear a bra but I didn’t want to. My boobs were hurting from not feeding as much. Leighton and I walked over to his office and knocked. “Lunch is ready. I just have to I’m relieve my milk and then we will be able to eat.” I walked back and sat down pulling my breast out to feed Leighton But He would take. “Come on buddy they are hurting bad, if you don’t eat they will dry up!”

Relieve milk? What the hell was that. I walked out and froze, her breast large and right in my eye sight. “Umm..” well fuck. “I’ll give you some privacy.” I cleared my throat and walked into the lounge and bar, pouring myself a scotch.

I blushed and hurried to put my breast away. Oh god how embarrassing. I put Leighton in his seat and waited a second “it’s okay I’m decent you can um come back in now.” I said not looking his way. Lunch was awkward already but then I had to go and cry. “I’m sorry, it’s just he isn’t wanting my milk anymore and I knew this day would come but I thought o had more time and now my breast hurt so bad.”

I wasn’t sure what I was meant to do. She was blubbering and I stood there like an idiot without a clue what to say “Umm, maybe he just prefers food at he moment.” I suggested sitting down. “He’s one, it’s probably good he’s eating solids more.”

I shook my head. “But he is my baby, and I won’t have another chance for another one.” I wiped my eyes. “I know I know I’m being ridiculous right now but it’s hard he is growing up so fast, and I just feel as if he is rejecting me like everyone else in life has.”

“Trust me, he hasn’t rejected you. You’re his mother, nothing changed that.” I gave her hand a squeeze and rub “it just means he’s growing up and we can’t do anything about that.”

I sighed. “Thank you.” I said and wanted to pull my hand away but didn’t it felt to nice but it was wrong. “Do you think you could maybe watch him for a hour I’m Ugh really tired for some reason.” I hope I wasn’t getting sick.
