Old life... New love..

He lives a sheltered routine life, used to order and schedule. That’s how it’s been since his wife passed. Before she died, they had the same routine and structure. Sex was for pregnancy and straight forward. His children, well mannered and reaching their early teens. 

She’s free spirited and clumsy. Travelling the world one month at a time. Her parents died and left her a trust fund for her to experience life at its best. She knows no schedule, and enjoys living. 

A job takes her to a small town, where she is to take photos of the beauty she finds. Renting a small house next to a large property. She goes over to introduce herself and finds the man less than pleasant.. but it doesn’t bother her and she soon finds herself annoying him for help each day.

How can he let someone new in his life when he had lost his only one. Everything she does, says, wears.. he compares it to her and when they become something more, he finds himself still saying she’s doing things wrongly.. can he let go of his past, and become something more with the future? and when he discovers old diaries in the attic that details a sordid affair with her ex boss, is it too late to see what he could have had.

I looked at him like he was crazy “I mean I would have assumed you would be coming with me, like I said it’s your baby too, and I want you involved with appointments and shopping, and yes you better be there when I give birth or I’d really hurt you.” I laughed

I smiled big.  “I just don’t believe it!  Thank you.” I kissed her on her lips and moaned she couldn’t be real I’m going to need to pinch myself.  The food came and we ate and talked it was nice till the door chinned and in walked Fred.

I noticed him tense up beside me and didn’t know why, something was up. Did I say something? “Hey I want to go grab some of those cookies, do you kids want one?” I asked standing. They all nodded and I walked over getting 5 with sprinkles and icing on top. A man came up beside me, “mm delicious.” He smiled “I haven’t seen you around before, are you new here? Maybe I could show you around.” I rolled my eyes “I’m pregnant.” He shrugged “I have 3 kids, I’m not out off by another.”

I watched Fred talk to her and she looked uncomfortable.  I told He kids to stay put.  I got up and wrapped my arm around Tessa.  “Is fred bothering you?”  I asked Tessa.  Glaring at him.  I wasn’t in the mood for him at all.

“Fred?” And then it hit me. “No sweetheart, I’m just telling him I’m not interested in him.” 

Fred had to laugh “she’s yours? Shit, you moved on to what.. a child? Decided you want some pussy since you never fucked your own wife and that’s why she came to me..” He leant in “just So you know, I’m asking for a DNA test on those kids to prove they’re mine. Mary was already pregnant and needed to make you think they were yours by getting you to sleep with her.” He smirked patting his chest “you’ll hear from my lawyer.” 

I grabbed Greg by the arm “don’t do anything in front of the kids, he’s baiting you. Come on, let’s go home.”

I nodded I felt sick that asshole had the nerve to hit. Tessa.  “I’m so sorry, your right let’s go home.” I felt like I wasn’t good enough for her at all.

“What a dick.” I said as we walked away. “Come on, let’s take the kids over the road to the park for a play. I’m sure they have energy to burn after dinner.” I felt bad for him, I had no clue what his wife seen in that guy, he was nothing but gross.

I nodded not knowing what else to say.  We walked over and I sat on the bench with her.  “What if he try’s to take them?”  God what if they are his.i just couldn’t help but think about it.

“I don’t know. Get a test done and see what comes back, but I dont have any answers for you.” I didn’t know how to comfort him which made me feel shitty. “He can’t take them.”

I sighed and grabbed her hand.  “He can if they are his.”  I blinked not wanting to cry. “Chad will be devastated the most.” I looked at her.  “Thank you for being here, it helps having someone I can talk to about all this.”

“Don’t think like that.” I squeezed his hand back and rested my head on his shoulder. “Everything will work out.” God I hoped so.

“I hope your right for their sake.” I sighed and watched them play.  “They are too good of kids to have to go through this. We should take them to New York!”  I said I know I wanted that time with her but things changed.

I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment that we weren’t going to be alone but I understood his reasons. “I’ll message my boss, they’ll love it there.”

I looked at her.  “Are you sure?” I felt bed already and it was all my fault she was even in this mess with me.  “I’m sorry I got you involved with my mess of a life you don’t deserve this stress specially right now.”

“Stop apologising. It’s all fine.” I said. “Pregnant or not, you can’t control everything so well just deal with this when it needs to be. Maybe you should talk with your lawyer.” I ran a hand through my hair. “God I’m so full from dinner.”

I looked at her belly where our baby was growing.  “At eyou Happy?”  I asked out of no where.  “I mean I know your not happy that your having a baby with someone old and who you don’t love, but are you at least happy?”

“You’re not old, Umm I don’t know. I mean Im having a baby a lot sooner than I thought I would. I’m kind of lucky that I’ve been able to travel as much as I have too. In a way I am happy, but some parts I’m not. If that even makes sense?” I laughed slightly. “What about you, are you happy?”

I gave a big sigh.  “At the moment Yeah, I am, but I have been through a lot to know it can come crashing down at any moment.” I looked at her.  “If you could change anything would you?”

“I think you know the answer to that.” I stared ahead at the kids who were laughing and playing. “That I could have been in a relationship, experienced things together before we married and then both wanted to create a baby together. My first time wasn’t the best, and I ended up pregnant. But it is what it is and I can’t chamge that. I can just hope one day the rest of my dream happens.”

I nodded.  “I’m sorry I took that from you, I know it’s not a excuse but I was so drunk.  I didn’t know it was your first. I wish I would have known.”  I would have made it different for her.  I watched the kids.

“Well it’s not like I walked around with a sign on my head saying warning, virgin” I laughed then sighed heavily “So New York, do you want to take the kids up the Empire State Building?”

I smiled.  “Yeah that Wait is that really high?”  I was scared of heights and I would panic.  “Umm maybe the kids and you can go.”  I pulled at the neck of my shirt.

“Oh.” I didn’t know why he wouldn’t want to come up. “That’s ok, we don’t have to. Anyway, the gallery is on the top floor At the bar on the one world observatory, it’s beautiful there at night with skyline views.” I smiled, then wondered about the kids and if they were too young.

“Wait what?” I started to sweat.  “T-top fl-floor?”  I didn’t like this.  That’s when chad came up.  “What’s on the top floor? And Dad are you going to be okay if it’s high up I mean you freaked when we went up to the 4th floor at the doctors office?”

“Wait you’re afraid of heights?” Oh this was making more sense. But I felt like we were two different people never going to make it work. “Umm, don’t worry. You know what, I’ll just go and come back in a few days. It will be boring anyway.” I brushed it off, but I was hit with immediate disappointment, I mean I was thinking all these damn romantic dinners in buildings and sight seeing. The hotel room was a damn penthouse. “Can we head back, I’m getting kind of tired.”
