Once upon a blizzard

One night during the start of a blizzard like storm a woman and her children (one boy and one girl) were traveling to get away from her ex. She had no choice she needed to get away. Her ex wa as abusive drunk who thought he owned her. She drove into a small town and was almost to where she wanted to be when out of no where she hit a deer. Sitting there in the cold not knowing what to do she looked at her phone seeing she only had a little battery left she called for help. The dispatcher said she was lucky that the fire station was close by. A little while later there was a knock on her door. She looked and was stunned by the handsome guy standing there asking if she was okay.

It was late and the snow was coming g down hard when we got a call about a woman and two children stuck on the side of the road. I was pissed that anyone let alone someone with children would be out in this mess. As we got to the scene I knocked on the window Dow and asked the lady if she was okay. She had a light bruise on her cheek possibly from the hit. Her car wasn’t on so those kids were probably cold we needed to get them to the station now.

“It means I haven’t bled so they They to remove the fetus with a small operation.” I laid back on the bed and then looked at him “what do you mean try? You don’t want kids?”

I laid down next to her.  “Are they sure the baby is gone?”  I had to ask maybe she didn’t miscarry.  “I know I said I didn’t want to but if it happened I wouldn’t be opposed to it as long as you help me and I don’t end until like my father I’d love to have a child with you I’d be lucky.”

“There’s no heartbeat, I seen for myself.” I pulled out the small black and white photo from my purse. “I’m just not ready to have a baby right now, it’s something that terrifies me and what we have is so new, I want to enjoy time with us, not with me knocked up and suffocating you with kids.”

I nodded.  “Okay then I’ll start wearing a condom till you want me to stop then we leave it up to faith. But i will be there when you go through this okay?  How about I call my mum and have her keep the kids and we just talk and cuddle.”

“I should just go home to them. I really want to just be with them.” I said wiping a tear. “You have work to focus on, and I’ll let you know when my next appointment is. They said they would call tomorrow.”

She was shutting me out I scared her.  “Oh um okay well call if you want to talk or if you just want me to read to you.”  I said sitting up and kissing her head.  I walked her out and watched her drive away.  Tony came up to me and I shook my head and turned and punched the wall I was so pissed. Not at her but at the situation.

“Fuck man what’s wrong? Lovers tiff?” He asked, frowning. “Look whatever it is I’m sure you’ll work it out.”

I didn’t want to talk specially not to him.  “Fuck off right now”. I walked away and went to my room I laid down and cried for the loss I never knew I had.  I waited and waited for her to call but she didn’t.

I couldn’t call, I just cried most the night. What a mess. The next morning I tried to do the normal routine, but I couldn’t. And when I went to the bathroom, I realised I didn’t need the operation, I felt the miscarriage. I climbed back into bed and sent Bo a message. - don’t worry about hospital. There’s no need for it now -

I woke to the sound of my phone beeping.  I read the message over and over.  -can I call?-  I sent back but got nothing back.  All day I went through my routine hating thinking of what she was going through.  I worked the rest of my days and as soon as I got off I went to her house I knocked and knocked.  I fucked up.

“Coming.” Ried called out running down the hallway. He opened the door and smiled big “Bo!” He hugged him “we have to be quiet, mummy is sleeping, she’s not feeling too well.. she’s been crying and we tried to make her soup but we spilt it. Could you help us please,”

I nodded and walked in.  I went and cleaned up their huge mess and smiled because it was cute that they were so concerned.  Something like this should have made me mad like it would have my dad but I laughed. That made me happy.  Next I took in the new soup I made and sat it on the bedside table.  “Jane baby.”  I said sitting down.  “Honey wake up the kids and I made you some soup.”

I stirred in my sleep, dreaming of Bo until I heard my name being spoken again and I opened my eyes to see him by my side “Bo? You’re here?” I sat up rubbing my eyes, yawning. “What’s the time? I can’t believe ive slept so long.” I felt terrible, I finally looked at him and just burst into tears.

I pulled her to me and cried with her not ashamed.  “Shhhh baby it’s okay I’m here I’m not going anywhere. You need to eat and get a shower we can all lounge on the couch together you the kids and I.  Or we can go get a dog for the kids?”  I said hoping she would want to do something.

I shrugged “probably just watch a movie on the couch or something, I’m honestly not feeling up to going anywhere just yet.” I sighed. I must look a crazy mess. “I didn’t expect to feel like this, I mean I was so set on not having anymore kids but this has thrown me.”

I sighed and held her.  “Me too Jane me too, I got into a fist fight with tony because he wouldn’t leave me alone and caught me crying and started saying shit so yeah I didn’t like what he had to say about you and hit him.  Then I came here upset and the kids had a big mess but I didn’t get mad I laughed Jane, I laughed something completely opposite of my father which made me realize how upset I am about our lost and how much I would love to have a child with you but I don’t want to put that on you if you don’t.”  I sighed.  “I love you regardless if you do or don’t I’m happy with your two children that I will help raise as my own. Even though you’ve done a great job on your own.”

I smiled, a weight lifted off my shoulders as I listened to him and what he had to say. “I would like that, But not right yet. We need more time and I want to do things with you before we bring a child in this world together.” We hadn’t even had a date before.

I smiled.  “Good now eat and then get up and shower woman you smell!”  I laughed and kissed her.  “I’ll get the kids to pick out a movie and get a bunch of snacks ready.”  I was happy we were on the same page.  I walked out and told the kids to pick out some movies and I started pulling together snacks.

“Why is mummy sad?” Luca asked sitting up beside him. “Is she going to have a baby? Coz she said the baby came out of her already.” 

Reid rolled his eyes “No she lost the baby. We have to find it.” 

I walked out hearing them talking, and just smiled “so what are we watching?”

I smiled.  “Looks like toy story.”  I said and pulled Luca on my lap. As Reid slid over closer to me.  “You see Kids your mummy and I are both sad because we lost the baby your little brother or sister, we can’t find her or him because she or he is in heaven with my brother now.  But maybe some day in the future we will have another baby okay but for now we are happy with you two!”  I kissed Lucas head and then Reid’s.  “Now let’s eat junk food and watch movies!”

I was refusing to share the block of fruit and nut chocolate, and had ended up eating the whole block during the movie. It felt good to just be lazy and eat like this. The kids were happy, and seeing Bo with them, made my heart happy. “Are you staying tonight?” I asked hopefully

I smiled.  “If you want me too then of course, I don’t want to overstep.”  I pulled her closer and snuggle with her and the kids.  Luca looked up st me.  “No we want you to stay here forever,  Reid and I want you to already be here mummmy is happier with you here please stay!”  I smiled and hugged her.  “Of course sweets!”

“Three against one, I think you’re outvoted.” I was so glad he wanted to stay here and that he was so kind to the kids but it worries me about Tony and what he’s said. “Alright you two, it’s bedtime.”

I smiled and got up with Luca taking her to bed and reading a story to her then I went to Reid’s room.  “Tomorrow we can play ball okay buddy?”  I kissed his head and went to her room. “I love you.” I said pulling her to my arms.  I didn’t want to push her to talk so I held her.

“I love you too” I whispered and wrapped my arms around back around him. “Thankyou for being here. It’s been a rough couple of days and I’m just glad you’re here.” I rested my head against his chest and groaned “youve really done a number on me in such a short time, and I wanted to say something to you..” I looked up at him “You’re nothing like your father, you are an incredible man who’s got more love to give than anyone I know. You would make an amazing dad and any child would be lucky to call you dad.”
