Once upon a blizzard

One night during the start of a blizzard like storm a woman and her children (one boy and one girl) were traveling to get away from her ex. She had no choice she needed to get away. Her ex wa as abusive drunk who thought he owned her. She drove into a small town and was almost to where she wanted to be when out of no where she hit a deer. Sitting there in the cold not knowing what to do she looked at her phone seeing she only had a little battery left she called for help. The dispatcher said she was lucky that the fire station was close by. A little while later there was a knock on her door. She looked and was stunned by the handsome guy standing there asking if she was okay.

It was late and the snow was coming g down hard when we got a call about a woman and two children stuck on the side of the road. I was pissed that anyone let alone someone with children would be out in this mess. As we got to the scene I knocked on the window Dow and asked the lady if she was okay. She had a light bruise on her cheek possibly from the hit. Her car wasn’t on so those kids were probably cold we needed to get them to the station now.

I laughed. “Yeah your so going down, just don’t mind the mess tony sucks at cleaning!”. I smiled hearing my mama. “Hey mum! I thought I got everything you needed yesterday?” She smiled and then busted out laughing. “Boy should I start worrying about you? This is the fifth time you let kids dress you up!”

I just smiled but realised this was just his usual behaviour around kids. “Anyway, I’ll clean these up me help in the kitchen if you’ve finsihed eating.” I took them before he could say anything else

That was odd. “What can I say mum I love making kids happy, as I didn’t get too much till it was just us.” I got up and tried to kiss her and she yelled “no way boy go clean yourself up and help that beautiful woman out.” I laughed went to clean myself up once done I went to help Jane. “Has mama got her friend from the police station over to help you file everything you need to?”

I nodded “yes we done that early this morning. I’m not sure what good it will do but I hope to be divorced very soon and starting fresh somewhere. The kids need to be in school.” I hated having to drag them from learning

I smiled. “My mum is a licensed teacher and can be their teacher if your not ready to send them off to school yet. Also there is a home next to the station who is looking for someone to help out with some of the patients if your interested I can put in a word to them they love me there!”

“Really?” I asked surprise. “That would be amazing, Thankyou. I would love to be able to get on my feet somehow.” It was so kind that he offered such a thing. “Thankyou Bo, I really appreciate it.”

I smiled and thought to myself shit why am I being so nice and why am I helping her this isn’t a good thing. “No problem.” I say and help put more groceries away.

I would bake him a cake and take it into work as a thanks. “So umm, how old are you by the way?” He was younger than me, that I knew.

I laughed “I’m 36!” I said and saw her look confused “kidding I’m only 28.” It didn’t brother me to tell my age what bothered me was when people started asking why I wasn’t dating or already married.

“Oh well I’m 30, old and aged.” He looked really good for 28. I grinned teasing playfully “I guess that explains the immaturity.”

I shook my head and stepped closer “I’m not immature, I just like seeing kids specially happy seeing as I had a rough childhood.” I didn’t realize we were as close as we were till she looked up at me fuck she is too close I need to step back but I can’t.

My heart was going crazy. “You’re very tall.” I pointed out, feeling so little in front of him. “You would be able to get the items from the top shelf quite easily.” What the hell? Why would I say that for? Thank god luca and Reid came in “are you two kissing?” Reid asked

I jumped back. “What? No don’t you know girls have cuties!” I made a disgusting face making him laugh and agree while Luca looks at me and then her mum. “What’s cuties?” I laughed and looked at Jane. “Yep my que to go get stuff off the top shelf.”

“Cuties are something boys say when they like a girl, but too scared to admit it.” Well that’s how I remembered it from back at school “like girl germs, anyway no one is kissing, now come on and get cleaned up before dinner. You’re both due for a bath.”

Once the kids were out I turned and looked at her. “That’s not what cuties are? They are girl germs that crawl under a mans skin and torture is!” I say proudly. Making her giggle. “Go on helo your kids I got it from here Besides it’s all things that are high up on the top shelf you can’t reach anyways.”

“Oh is that so?” I walked past him and ran my hands down his chest and over his arm to his back “looks like you’re covered in girl germs.” I laughed shaking my head, he brought out a side in me i hadn’t felt for years.

I shook my head. “Not if I drown myself in tomato sauce or is that to be cured from skunk funk?” I called out to her as my mum entered the kitchen. “Ummm everything okay in here?” I laughed. “Yeah just fine.” I turned and rubbed my chest where she touched hating myself for letting her get to me. I have never had a problem ignoring women but it’s hard with her.

I bathed the kids and dressed them in their pyjamas, they were tired but hungry and after dinner they fell asleep almost immediately. “I think you wore them out.” I pointed out starting the dishes. “How did the tomato sauce scrubbing go? All cured.” I smiled

I laughed “nah mum didn’t have enough I have to stop and get more, but it may be to late.” I was cleaning up from dinner mum was watching her shows and Jane was watching me.

“Oh really?” I rolled my eyes “I’m quite infectious, so lucky you.” I nudged him in the side with my elbow. “I’ve been talking with your mum, and I’m going to stay here until I can get a place of my own, nothing huge but something for the kids and I. She thinks I should stay here, and I agree with her. The kids are happy here.”

I looked at her. Why is she telling me this? “Oh well tomorrow is my last day off so I normally sit around but if you need something just tell mum to calm me or you can call too.” I said god I’m a idiot.

“I don’t have your number.” I pointed out, god what was I doing? I shouldn’t be acting like this. He was basically a child and I was some old ugly abused woman who left her husband. “Anyway it’s ok. I have all I need here.”

I nodded “okay then, I’ll just finish up and be on my way then.” I started loading the dishes shaking my head I’m so stupid offering her to call me.

I hadn’t seen him around much, I’d been avoiding him purposely when I realised I was acting so stupid. He made it clear he wasn’t in me, especially me. I had baggage. So I started working at the home next to the fire station and it was really good, I felt like myself in a way. The next day I walked in early, and went to the fire station with a baked cake for Bo. “Umm is Bo around?” I asked. 

Tony smirked “looks like Mrs Jane has taken quite a liking to you? She’s got love written all over her face, hope you’re ready to play happy families man.” He said seriously. “She’s clung on hard.”

I shook my head. “What the hell are you talking about man.” He nodded and I looked down and saw Jane with a Cake. I walked down and over to her. “Hey What brings you here?” I saw her Cake and smiled it looked so good and I wasn’t going to share it with any of the guys.
