Fake Fiancé

Christmas in New York is her favourite time of year.. or well it was, until her parents called to say they’re coming to stay for the holidays and can’t wait to finally meet her fiancé.. It usually wouldn’t have been a problem, but the major downside was that there’s no fiancé.. she’s as single as one can be. She’s got a great job, finally moved into her new apartment and enjoying life, as a single woman with a cat. The thought of having a man around, warmed her heart but none were interested in her. With her sisters upcoming wedding, she knew the pressure was on to settle down and the words I’m engaged were being blurted our after one too many drinks after endless nagging.

She had her eye on someone, and not just anyone.. her boss. Like that would ever happen. Emotionless and arrogant, he could be the perfect candidate.. Well, there was no harm in asking right?

I sighed. “I know I don’t need to but I’d really like to. I want to be there as much as you will let me. I want to be the husband you deserve when your ready for that.” I glanced at her and then back at the road. “I want us to work I want us to be a real family.”

“How can we be a real family when you won’t compromise? I don’t want to sell my apartment and move into your house. It’s not fair you expect me to do that.” I was hoping we could work this out otherwise it was going to be a great trip.

I sighed. “What if we looked into a new place something in the middle?” I asked and then added. “It’s your apartment so it’s your choice if you want to keep it. I just want us at some point under one roof you know.”

“I know you do, and i want that too but I’m not ready to jump that deep in. Yes I know we’re having a baby which is bigger than deep but I don’t see why you can’t stay at the apartment to start with.” I suggested.

I sighed. “I don’t do small spaces very well. It makes me go crazy. I can stay here and there but I can’t always be there I’ll go crazy.” I hated that she couldn’t understand this I mean I really hate small places. So to help her understand I decided to tell her. “I have a older and really annoying cousin that I don’t speak to. When I was about 5 years old he locked me in a tiny closet. I panicked and no one knew I was in there. I was locked inside for 10 hours before they found me. I was so sick they took me to the hospital. I won’t forget that feeling and when I feel like the room or place is to small I freak out. I don’t know how to control it I haven’t figured it out I’ve tried I went and talked to people but everything they suggest doesn’t help.” I glanced at her. “I’m sorry.”

“I wish you’d told me this earlier.” I said quietly. “Lets just talk about something else.” It was clear we weren’t going to get past this and I didn’t know what to do. “What’s the food like in Tokyo?”

“It’s good, different than here of course.” I hated that I just broke down and told her something about me and she changes the subject to Tokyo a place I don’t wish to discuss because it was a bad time. “Why don’t you tell me something I don’t know about you?”

“There isn’t much to tell. I have a brother that I haven’t seen in almost 18 years. I don’t know where he is or anything about him.” I said with a shrug. “My mum wanted me to become a nurse.”

I nodded. “But you didn’t, you wanted to become a personal assistant?” That didn’t seem right. “If you could do anything over again what would it be?”

“Honestly, And please don’t take offence to this.” I said glancing at him “I’d have the wedding I wanted, the engagement I wanted and started a family the right way.” I felt terrible, and guilty because I’d forced this on us both.

I nodded. “I thought you’d say something along those lines.” It hurt but I knew it from the start. “I’m sorry I didn’t give that to you.” We drove in silence for a little while I just didn’t know if I could win her over. I don’t think she will love me the way a wife should. It we had a child to think about as well. I thought and thought of how I could make things right. “Georgia, if you weren’t pregnant would you have filed for divorce?” I needed to know.

I almost laughed at the strange question. “It would have been easier to file for divorce, but that also wouldn’t solve anything so no I wouldn’t have done unless you said you didn’t want to be married anymore or that this was a mistake. Would you have?” It would make his life a lot easier that’s for sure.

I glanced and her and said. “Honestly it would make both our lives easier but no I didn’t even know you were pregnant and even then divorce never entered my mind.” I took a deep breath. “Over the years that you have worked for me, it’s been easy to keep a distance because that’s just that you worked for me and I wouldn’t cross that line. Then you asked me for a favor, one I couldn’t turn down even if I wanted to. Your so beautiful, I hated that you worked for me but loved it as well. Your so talented and I wanted so badly to be able to take you out. So I guess I was really selfish when you asked me to become your fake fiancé.” I sighed. “I guess what I’m saying is I wish we could have dates and I wish I could have gave you the engagement and one day the wedding and family you wanted.”

I wished he would have told me this months before we entered this plan. “I wish I knew that. I would have loved to go on a date you planned, and many of times I wondered who you were spending your nights with, i just thought you weren’t interested in me other than boss and colleague.”

I glanced with a smile. “So how about we date?” I laughed. “I know we are already married and we are having a daughter soon but let’s take the time and date?” I mean if she wondered and I did as well might as well see if we can make a real go at this.

“You’ve got three months to win me over.” I laughed, smiling as my cheeks hurt. “But I think you may have already done that.” I pointed out.

I smiled. “Well then I have three months to earn your keep.” I placed my hand on her belly and laughed as I felt lily kick. “She is very active in there? Maybe it’s that milk shake!” We drove the rest of the way talking about things we’ve done or want to still do. It was nice and I enjoyed it.

“Oh my god.” I half muttered to myself as we arrived at my parents to see a circus of people rushing around preparing for the wedding. “Let me go and get the key, we’re in the guest house.” I said heading indoors.

Her mother was outside and spotted Rhett by the car, “Oh you made it!” She ran over to hug him. “Georgia said you may be working but would try make it home, that’s just wonderful. We’ve got the whole family home, please tell me you’ve got time off for when the baby comes. It’s such a shame she couldn’t fly to be with you but the doctors know best I guess.”

I stood there and nodded. “Well I’m home now for good, so no more worrying. I just need to make Georgia few more appreciated I hate that I haven’t been around for her but that all changes now.” I smiled wondering if I should just shut up.

“Oh she understands dear. I’m sure it’s her who needs to make sure a man like yourself is happy. I told her rick Ben have needs and if they’re not met they go out and get them elsewhere.” She said with a tsk. “She won’t tell me the name of the baby though.”

I got a little mad at this information. “With all due respect ma’am, that’s not who I am I would never go out on Georgia and my needs are meet with her and only her. She is such a amazing person that it upsets me you put that in her head. Any guy would have to be mental to cheat on her.” I shook my head. “I will not be telling you the name either specially if she hasn’t yet I will respect my wife and wait till she is ready! Now if you would excuse me I’d like to find her and put our stuff down and give her a foot massage before the events start.”

“There you are.” I was out of breath with walking up a flight of stairs to find my sister. “Right I’m good to go now, we’re down here.” I opened the door and pulled my bag out. “I haven’t seen my parents, have you?”

I groaned. “I have seen your mother and she said something that upset me. She said she told you that you have to keep your man happy or he will go somewhere else.” I practically growled. “I would not do that. And her implying that I would pissed me off. But I calmly told her that any man would have to be mental to do that to you. Now let’s enjoy this wedding together.”

“Good because according to my sister we’re late.” I rolled my eyes and sighed about my mother “yeah she said you were having a lot of sex in Tokyo if we weren’t phone sexing it up.” I pushed the key in and unlocked the door. One king sized bed and that was our room. I spotted my dress and was relieved it turned up. “I need to do my makeup first. You can shower again if you need to. I won’t take forever.”

I smiled. “Okay I want to be able to massage you feet as well before the days events start.” I leaned in and kissed her cheek. “I’m going to get my suit out and make sure it’s good.”
