I grabbed a latte after dropping the boys off to their primary school. I was so tired and I’m sure it was noticeable. There usually wasn’t a day when I didn’t like work. It was great, and I loved my creating writing class, plus the English teacher over the hall was a dream. I walked over to his room, placed a coffee on his desk like I do most mornings and came back to mine and began writing on the chalk board about the upcoming excursion away.

As I walked back into my room I noticed my coffee sitting there knowing the beautiful woman across the hall was here made me smile. I took a drink and laughed to myself. I wrote what I needed then walked across to thank her. “Mrs Easton, thank you for the coffee, I’m in desperate need of it this morning.” I gave a small smile I didn’t need to tell her I needed it because I rushed out of my house after having another huge fight with my wife. I knew she needed it to as she looked tired and just well not like herself.

I smiled upon hearing his voice “how many times have I told you to call me Jayde? And it’s no problem, you owe me like three I think, maybe a bagel too.” I brushed the chalk from my hands and held a finger up “oh wait, I need to give you the sheet for the trip. I have sixteen permission slips approved.”

I smiled and walked over. “That’s a good amount I believe I have about the same.” I couldn’t wait for this trip I was in need even if I was going with a bunch of kids. “This will be a fun trip.” I went to take the papers and glazed her fingers with mine. Damn!

I froze not meaning to, almost dropping the sheet. “Sorry.” I blushed, looking away. “Well it will be good, who doesn’t love a good English lesson and I’m sure the kids will love the fact there is a pool at the hotel. I’m even looking forward to that.”

I smirked. “Me too, I haven’t been able to relax or even have a good swim in forever.” I heard the noise outside and nodded. “Well thanks for this, see you at lunch?” The red tent in her cheeks made me want to stay and talk to her.

“I’m on duty, so I’ll see you out there.” I smiled, as a group of girls came giggling into the classroom and glancing at him. Oh girls, I know. Trust me, I knew what they were thinking and had to agree. He was just amazing!

I smiled and walked back into my class as the day went by too fast. After my last student left I packed up and headed to the staff lounge hoping to see Mrs Easton. She always says I can call her by her first but if I do then I would be crossing a line with her.

PI walked into the staff room realising I left lunch st home. Great. I didn’t have any spare money on me at all either. I let out a yawn, entering the room and blushed with a smile as he caught me “sorry!”

I smiled. “No problem.” I noticed she didn’t have her normal lunch bag. I pulled the chair out. “Sit looks like you were in a hurry this morning you can have some of my lunch.”

“What did you pack?” Or most likely it would have been his wife probably. I bet she was amazing. “I left mine on the counter, I was in a rush.”

I smiled. “Just left overs of dinner that I made last night. Some chicken parm.” I glanced at her and noticed the surprise in her eyes when I said I cooked. “What don’t look so surprised I like cooking.”

“Really?” My husband has never once cooked at all. Grinning, I took the fork and tried a piece. It was good. “Beats my pb&j samdwich that’s for sure.” I smiled.

I laughed.  “Pb&js are awesome!  I haven’t had one in a long time.”  She blushed more and I loved it.  I knew this was wrong but I couldn’t help it she made me feel well she made me feel alive again.

“They’re so good, play your cards right and I’ll bring an extra one tomorrow.” I laughed, oh god it felt good to laugh. “How was your morning, I had six kids away sick so it’s been quiet.”

I smiled. “I look forward to tomorrow’s lunch!” I winked not realizing it. “The kids are in for a rude awakening they think once they get out of school it’s all fairytale and happy endings.” What the fuck! I shouldn’t be saying these things to her. I’ve crossed the line now she is going to know my life isn’t what I make it look to be. My life sucks my wife is I don’t even know who she is anymore. I gave a small smile.

“Trust me, I’ve made that known to them. You grow up believing something, and it’s the total opposite.”’I sighed, and shook my head.’”oh well, not much we can do about it though can we. Life is hard, people change and you’ve just got the realise there’s nothing you can do to it anymore except try and be happy.” I wasn’t sure where this conversation was headed but it seemed like we were talking about relationships

I nodded. “Very true, then life changes more once a kid or kids is brought into it.” I shook my head. “I should I’m get back to my class and get ready-“. I looked down and had food left and handed it to her. “Here you enjoy this and I look forward to the pb&j”

“You know, if you ever need to talk. I have great ears.” From what I heard so far, maybe he wasn’t going through such a good time. “And thanks, I’ll bring you one tomorrow.” I smiled, and picked up my book to read then said without thinking “do the teachers get to enjoy a beer on this trip once the kids are in bed?”

I laughed. “I believe we are adults and I won’t tell if you don’t!” I winked and got up to leave. “Thanks and you know same to you if you ever need to talk.” I left after that because if I didn’t I wouldn’t want to. Walking into my classroom and sighing I just wish things could be different, I wish my wife would show me she still loves me.

The rest of the day passed in a blur, I left to pick up my boys from school, they were rather happy to see me and tell me about their day. I knew they didn’t like their father as much a anymore. It showed with how they kept close to me through out the night. He came home drunk and in a mood. I tried my best to ignore him but we ended up fighting and I just slept in the boys room crying myself to sleep wishing for a better life. The next day was the same routine and I left for work while he slept all day as usual. I made an extra sandwich, placed it on his desk with a coffee and went to my room to prep for a test coming up

I came into my classroom and smiled god she was so sweet everyday a coffee and now this sandwich. I got my coffee and walked over to her room. “Your a angel Mrs Easton! A god bless angel!” I sat down in a chair and watched her she had some curves that I wouldn’t mind feeling. I shook my head and really took in her face I jumped up. “Jayde! What’s wrong? You’ve been crying your eyes are red and puffy!”
