He lives a sheltered routine life, used to order and schedule. That’s how it’s been since his wife passed. Before she died, they had the same routine and structure. Sex was for pregnancy and straight forward. His children, well mannered and reaching their early teens. 

She’s free spirited and clumsy. Travelling the world one month at a time. Her parents died and left her a trust fund for her to experience life at its best. She knows no schedule, and enjoys living. 

A job takes her to a small town, where she is to take photos of the beauty she finds. Renting a small house next to a large property. She goes over to introduce herself and finds the man less than pleasant.. but it doesn’t bother her and she soon finds herself annoying him for help each day.

How can he let someone new in his life when he had lost his only one. Everything she does, says, wears.. he compares it to her and when they become something more, he finds himself still saying she’s doing things wrongly.. can he let go of his past, and become something more with the future? and when he discovers old diaries in the attic that details a sordid affair with her ex boss, is it too late to see what he could have had.

I was still with chad when I heard her. We both jumped up and ran down to her. “Tessa baby what in the world. Chad get the first aid kit!” I picked her up and sat her on the kitchen island. “What is going on why are you shoeless running in here?”

“Where is your phone?!” I half shouted in a panic. “Someone was in the house!” I couldn’t breath I was in a panic “The door was open and I thought it was you but you didn’t write back and I couldn’t stand being there.”

My phone wait what. “Baby shhh calm down your safe here. Slow down and tell me again.” I took the stuff from chad and started cleaning her wounded feet and elbow from where it looked like she fell.

“I sent you a message. I was in the bath and thought you were outside walking around.” I said trying to take steady breaths. “I got this uneasy feeling, and went to make sure all the doors were locked but the kitchen one was open, which I closed when I came inside from here.. and then I heard someone walking around the lounge room. That’s when I ran.” I was shaking “someone was in the house and I don’t know anyone to have people over.”

I didn’t like that at all. “Okay okay I’ll go check it out you stay with the kids okay.” I looked at chad. “Make her some tea and stay close to her okay.” He nodded looking a little scared. I walked out and went to the cottage once there the doors were closed and nothing was out of place. No one was there she must of scared them off. I walked back. I kissed her head. “I didn’t see anyone Baby it could have been a animal although I’m not sure how one would open the door.” I looked at chad. “We were just talking and were about to take photos down do you want to go back or stay here?” Please stay here I thought.

“Are you kidding? I’m not going back there! I’m not going anywhere on my own.” I was too freaked out to go anywhere tonight.

I smiled. “Okay you want to wait for me in the bedroom or on the couch while chad and I get to work?” Chad was trying not to laugh at the way she said that.

“I’ll wait on the couch. I need green tea or something. Maybe a whiskey” I glanced around making sure the curtains were drawn. “If I was heavily pregnant, I’m sure I would be in labour right now.”

I shook my head. “Alright let’s hurry up.” I said to chad. After we took the last of the photos down I walked over and sat with her. “Your really shaken up baby, you want me to go check again?” I was kind of worried.

“Well I feel like you’re not as worried as I am. Someone was in my house Greg, literally in the house! Broke in. Of course I’m shaken up and freaked out. What if I was in the bath still and they came in there.” I got up and moved to where he was, just needing to be close. “I’m not going back there. When can we move into the other house?” I climbed on his lap and hugged him tightly. “I’m sorry, I’m used to be alone but this feeling I’ve had all week of someone watching me is just creeping me out terribly.”

I sighed and held her close. “I know Babi have the had the same feeling. The house won’t be ready for about a month.” I kissed her head. “How about we go upstairs and try to sleep.”

“I doubt I’ll sleep” i sighed, following him to the room. “We’re buying a new bed too, I looked at it and sat, pulling the covers back “one that’s just ours.”

I smiled. “Of course we are! I was thinking we can turn this into a bed and breakfast or a art gallery for you!” I walked up and leaned down kissing her then moving over her so she was laying down. “I love you tessa, I’m not going to let anything hurt you.”

I woke up Saturday morning, barely able to contain myself. Today I was going to marry my best friend and one true love. I couldn’t wait, and was at the house getting ready to meet him down by the waterfall while he dressedover a the cottage. 

I didn’t bother knocking, I walked into the cottage where I’ve spent many nights and down to the bedroom. He was wearing a suit, looking better than when we were marrying, or even together. “You sure make an effort for her don’t you.” I said leaning against the door frame noticing he was clearly shocked to see me “hello sweetheart, I can see you’re busy but let me break this down for you. You can’t marry your young mid life crisis. You know why? Because by law and still on paper, you and I are still married so this one won’t count if you decide to go ahead with it.” I smirked.

I looked at her what the hell! To say I was pushed was a understatement. “What how?” I shook my head. “No no no there is a lay saying if your gone for so long no this- just no!” I stormed passed her and outside calling my lawyer. I had to know before I walked in and told Tessa oh god Tessa “fuck if this is true then I will get a divorce right away.”

She laughed bitterly “we cant divorce you fool, we’re married. Don’t you want to know how? Or why?” She blocked his path and smiled “I was in a lot of trouble, yes I met the wrong people and was soon I’m above my head but they threatened you. I wrote journals because I was forced to do so, didn’t you see the hidden message abot me needing help?” She sighed “I was in witness protection Greg, and now the men are gone. I came home, and found you’ve moved onto a woman half your age? She’s practically a child! We have a family.” She said with tears “don’t give up on us. We can be happy again. But let me make one thing clear, you made a vow to me. I won’t ever sign a divorce.”

It was my turn to laugh. “Your funny Mary! Cause guess what I found out while you were suppose to be dead! You lie and cheat! Chad is my child by blood but Kenzie and Tom wel they aren’t my children by blood nor your lover Fred’s? So whose are they? Oh and I do think that’s means for a divorce without you signing off on it. So get this through your head we are over!”

“Well I have news for you.” She marched towards him “you can apply for a divorce, but you’re not getting one and you’re definitely not going to marry your little girlfriend over at the house waiting for you. I’m sure she’s going to be thrilled that I’m back in the picture. Seeing as you two have been enjoying yourselves by the waterfall.” She glared “and yes I know they aren’t your kids, but I’m sure you don’t want me to take all three away from you so I suggest you shut up and play nice otherwise you won’t have any children to look after when I go for custody!”

I shook my head and laughed. “You don’t scare me! Your threats mean nothing because all the court has to do is look at the mess you got yourself into, then look at how I’ve provides for them. They can also talk to the children and confirm how bad of a person you are.” I started to walk to the house I needed to talk to Tessa. “I’m not playing games with you Mary we are done! I love Tessa and we will marry as soon as we are divorced.” I sighed when I got to the house I walked in. Kenzie came running over to me yelling I can’t be there. I sighed. “I know baby but I need to talk to you and your brothers plus Tessa.”

I heard voices and the kids telling him to leave but he was saying he needed to talk. I had the worst feeling in my gut and when I walked out I knew something was wrong. “Why are you here for? You can’t be here.” I tried to smile. I was dressed and ready to go. “Don’t tell me its raining outside.”

I looked her up and down. “Your so beautiful.” I walked over to her “you need to sit-“. I looked at the kids. “Your three to.” As they did I shook. “I was getting ready and I got a very um undead visitor.” I looked up at Tessa. “She said she was in protective service she was in bad with some people, I don’t believe her how could I After what she had done to me and the kids.” I hated this part. “Legally we cant get married, I need to get my lawyer on the phone and figure out how soon I can divorce her under the circumstances.” I looked at the kids. “She said she was going to fight for you kids if I didn’t play to her liking, but I will fight just as hard and I won’t force you to stay with me. She is outside if you want to see her. I need a minute with Tessa.” They nodded and I couldn’t tel what they were feeing these poor kids. I got up and paced. “Tessa I didn’t know, I do know I want her out of my life! I want you I want us to be married and I need you.”

I felt the wind knocked out of me, tears were in my eyes. His wife was back and we couldn’t marry. My heart broke. “Greg..” I said as my voice broke “you need to go back to her. Your kids need their family together again.” I let him go, my heart breaking as tears ran down my cheeks “love shouldn’t be this hard.. it’s always been complicated for us.” I turned away not knowing what to do.

“Tessa no! I won’t go back to her! I can’t! I now know what true love is because of you I won’t give up on that on us.” I can’t believe she was saying this.

“Well how is this going to work? She’s threatening you! Threatening the kids and that’s serious! I can’t belive this.” I felt like an idiot. I had to get out of this dress. “She will always ruin whatever we have.” I cried. “You can’t marry me because of her. I can’t fucking believe this.” I sobbed rushing to undress as if the fabric burned my skin

I stood there watching in horror. “What are you exactly saying Tessa? You won’t allow us to work because of her?” I was hurt. Does this mean the kids won’t want me too. “I love you I want to marry you I want kids with you! Is that not enough?”
