Once upon a blizzard

One night during the start of a blizzard like storm a woman and her children (one boy and one girl) were traveling to get away from her ex. She had no choice she needed to get away. Her ex wa as abusive drunk who thought he owned her. She drove into a small town and was almost to where she wanted to be when out of no where she hit a deer. Sitting there in the cold not knowing what to do she looked at her phone seeing she only had a little battery left she called for help. The dispatcher said she was lucky that the fire station was close by. A little while later there was a knock on her door. She looked and was stunned by the handsome guy standing there asking if she was okay.

It was late and the snow was coming g down hard when we got a call about a woman and two children stuck on the side of the road. I was pissed that anyone let alone someone with children would be out in this mess. As we got to the scene I knocked on the window Dow and asked the lady if she was okay. She had a light bruise on her cheek possibly from the hit. Her car wasn’t on so those kids were probably cold we needed to get them to the station now.

I sighed and walked into the room. I grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom in the shower I New I fucked up. I fucked it all up. After I couldn’t sleep she wasn’t going to be on the couch either I waited till she was sleeping and gently picked her up laying her in bed I covered her up and sighed. I went out on the couch and turned the tv on and sat there thinking what I could have done differently.

I woke up confused at how I was back in the bed. I laid there hearing the kids talking about going on more rides today and got up, dressing quickly with my hair down and barely any makeup. I walked out pretending everything was ok but truth was I felt like bursting into tears. “How about we go to the restaurant for breakfast?”

I looked up at her but she wouldn’t look at me. “Yeah why don’t you guys guy on down I need to shower and get ready.” The kids looked at me “we can wait right Mum?@. Reid asked looking at her. “It’s okay buddy you guys go on.” I got up and got my coffee and walked out to the balcony. I just didn’t know what to do. This hurt bad.

I was confused, and the kids had noticed something was up too. They kept asking why he wasn’t eating with us and when he would be coming down. We ordered his breakfast for him and waited, hoping it wouldn’t take long. “Just eat up, it’s ok. He won’t be far away.” I smiled at them. “Look Minnie Mouse and Mickey are walking around.” And Thankyou That distracted them.

After I got ready I figured she would have high tailed it out of there before I got there but there she was sitting and smiling at the kids with Minnie and Mickey Mouse. I noticed the plate of food and felt really bad. I walked over and sat down Luca screamed. “Bo! Look Minnie is here!” She got out of her chair and ran over to me. “I’m so glad you came to see them!” She said. “I wouldn’t have missed it sweets.”

I looked at him, watching Luca sit on his lap and pointed to his plate “we got you Mickey pancakes with lots of cream!” She beamed and kissed his cheek. “We’re going to the second park today, are you up for more rides?” I asked quietly. God this was awkward.

I looked up at Luca and smiled she was so adorable. I then looked at Jane. “Yeah, I think I can ha sleep that!” I tickled Lucas belly. “What do you say sweets?” I looked over at Reid who looked upset “Hey buddy you okay?” He looked at his mum and then at me. “Are you two not friends anymore? I really want Bo to be your friend Mummy, but you guys seem mad at each other, not like how daddy got at you but I can tell something.” He said and my heart dropped. “Hey buddy, one you shouldn’t have to worry about that but I understand why you do, I use to get that way when I Mum started having friends too. But no we aren’t mad at each other and we will always be friends.” I looked at Jane hoping I said the right things.

“He’s right. We’re still friends and always will be. I’m just tired, and you know how mummy gets when she doesn’t sleep.” I played it off but I felt even worse. “You should eat though, because you’re going to buy me funnel cake after breakfast.” I winked leaning back with my coffee.

I nodded. “Noted.” I ate with Luca helping me we laughed as she missed my mouth and stabbed my nose with the fork. I kept glancing at Jane not knowing what to say. After we ate we left to go to the park. Reid wanted to hold my hand and his mums while Luca didn’t want me to put her down. Still every chance I got I looked at her. I bought her a funnel cake and the kids one. I stole some from each of them. We rode some rides the kids were having fun but I wasn’t really because all I could think is I fucked up so bad.

“If I go on that I’ll throw up.” I glanced at the huge roller coaster. “I’m having fun with my cake and that’s it.” I grinned. I was hungry, but I shouldn’t be. “Anyway, how about you boys go on it? We will watch from here?” I looked at Bo knowing he would probably be somewhere else.

I looked at Reid and he smiled “okay we will be right back.” I said and we walked off to go. As we got closer he looked scared. “Hey buddy I’m right here but if you don’t want to go you don’t have to.” He shook his head and pointed to a guy. “I didn’t know who he was but it seemed Reid did. I took my phone out a snapped a photo. “Okay come on let hurry back to your mum and sister. Once we got back I looked at Jane. “We need to go now.” She looked confused. “I’ll explain once we are back in the hotel room.” I looked back and didn’t see the guy that had Reid scared. Once we got back I put in a movie and explained to Reid we would be right back I pulled my phone out and told Jane. “We were in line and Reid froze I thought he was just scared but he shook his head and pointed at this guy. I know it’s not your ex but who is he?”

I felt the colour leave my face. “We need to go.” I said beginning to panic. “If he’s here he knows where we are.. he won’t stop until he has the kids.” I sent them to their rooms to wait for me. “He-“ I couldn’t breathe, my chest rose and fell faster. “He is.. when Luke was drunk, he would come home with him.. one night they were drunk, and he hit on me which I shoved him away and he-“ tears came to my eyes “he pulled Reid out of bed and made him watch as he beat me until I couldn’t move. Over and over again he kicked me, cut me.. that’s why I have the mark under my breast. He cut my hair. It used to be much longer than this.” I felt humiliated. “My son had to watch as he beat, rape and defile me in the most disgusting ways no son should ever see.”

I pulled her to me. “Shhh, listen I won’t let anyone hurt you or them.” I felt like a jerk. “Hey hey look we can bring them back here another time okay but right now Your right we need to go.” I kissed her not caring if she didn’t want me. “We can take them somewhere else right now and still have fun. They need the fun specially Reid and then when we get home I’ll take him fishing and teach him how to be a good man okay!”

I looked at him with worry, but nodded. “Ok I’ll get the kids packed.” I didn’t like this, and it frightened me that he was here and this close to us. “I just need to be with my babies.”

I smiled. “I know and I need to make sure you all are safe.” I pulled her back and kissed her. “Go but try to act normal okay.” I looked at her and then “I um I’m so sorry for overstepping and wanting more I understand why you don’t.” I couldn’t help it. I don’t know why I said it, it was so the wrong time.

I nodded grateful he I understand “I’m sorry.” I’m not going to be the girl he needs. I was a mess, my life was a mess. I sat with the kids quietly, holding them closely. “We’re going to leave soon, were going somewhere else and we can come back here another day.” I said holding back the tears.

I walked out and looked at them. I couldn’t hold it in I walked up and wrapped my arms around them. “Ready?” She nodded. Once we were safely in my truck I looked at her in the back with the kids I didn’t mind I expected it. I drove till I was certain no one was following us. I pulled over to eat. Later I got us a hotel room. As I sat on the bed and watched her hold both the children I hurt for her. She so derserves better.

“How long are we here for?” I asked once they had finally dozed off, my eyes red from the silent tears I’ve cried for them. It proves i cannot be safe anywhere.

I looked at bed. “Honestly I’m not sure.” I looked at the kids. “Come here?” I asked wanting to hold her needing to have her in my arms to let her know I’m here for her.

I stood up, walking over to him and breaking down as soon as his arms were around me. “Nothing will ever be good for me.” I shook my head. “My life is a mess. The kids deserve better, they deserve so much more than this.”

I held her tight and kissed her head. “Shhh baby, your doinna Damn good job with them. They love you, your amazing to be as strong as you are tonhave gone through everything by yourself. You amaze me.” I rubbed her back. “Shhhhh it’s oksy it will be okay you’ll see one day you’ll have all that your heart desires.”

“My heart desires to be away from him.” I wiped my eyes on my sleeve and sighed. This wasn’t fair to him. “Take me to bed, I just need to forget everything..” I said softly, looking up at him.

I held her. “Is that what you want?” I wouldn’t ever deny her of what she wanted but I wanted to make sure she wasn’t gojng to regret it. I wanted her that was for damn sure she broke me completely.

“I want you. It’s not just because I’m feeling like this, it’s because I want you, even when we’re back.. I’m not someone who does hook ups or just casual sex. I don’t know what you want but that’s how I am, and yes I don’t want the kids knowing or anyone until I sort this mess out and I know it sounds bad but i need slow.” I was sure I had scared him off now

I smiled. “Slow!” I said thinking it over even though I knew I liked the idea wasn’t crazy about hiding it but if that’s what she wanted then okay. “Yeah Okay Slow I think that’s doable.” I kissed her and pulled away. “If it’s too much it gets to be just tell em okay? I’ve never done this just remember.”
