Once upon a blizzard

One night during the start of a blizzard like storm a woman and her children (one boy and one girl) were traveling to get away from her ex. She had no choice she needed to get away. Her ex wa as abusive drunk who thought he owned her. She drove into a small town and was almost to where she wanted to be when out of no where she hit a deer. Sitting there in the cold not knowing what to do she looked at her phone seeing she only had a little battery left she called for help. The dispatcher said she was lucky that the fire station was close by. A little while later there was a knock on her door. She looked and was stunned by the handsome guy standing there asking if she was okay.

It was late and the snow was coming g down hard when we got a call about a woman and two children stuck on the side of the road. I was pissed that anyone let alone someone with children would be out in this mess. As we got to the scene I knocked on the window Dow and asked the lady if she was okay. She had a light bruise on her cheek possibly from the hit. Her car wasn’t on so those kids were probably cold we needed to get them to the station now.

I looked at him “only if you’re sure it’s ok?” I didn’t want to intrude. Tony smirked “it’s more than ok. It’s nice having a woman around, you can cook right?” I looked at him rolling my eyes “Yes I can cook but don’t expect breakfast in bed.” I sat down on tha sofa and looked at the kids, before I got a word out they were saying “can we sleep on the mattress out here mum? Pleassseeee?”

I looked at her. “I don’t mind it will be like we are camping but it’s up to you.” I then glared at tony. “Woman or not she is my guest so you will be doing your own cooking got it?”

He groaned “yeah whatever.” I laughed, sitting up with a yawn “Well maybe i should get you kids ready for bed then,” I realised I didn’t have any clothes for us. “Umm do you think we could go grab some clothes for us and tony watch the kids?” I asked curious.

I looked at her. “You sure you want tony watching the kids?” Laughing he flicked me the finger. “See He is terrible for them!” I laughed and nodded. “Yeah we can do that. I got up and put my shoes on I’ll call the police and talk to them while we are out that way the kids don’t hear anything too.”

“Great, we won’t be long.” I kissed the kids and followed him out to the car. We went to the house and his mum was there, she looked very excited as she handed me an envelope “here you go!” I started to read it as Bo filled her in. It was ridiculous I thought as I looked at Bo’s mum clapping excitedly. “But how?” I asked, still confused.

“Oh dear, I was at the shops the other week and they ran a competition, I’m too old for it so I entered your name, and I knew it! You’d win!” She beamed. “Bo isn’t that wonderful?” 

I smiled still shocked speaking before he could “it’s great and all, and being so close to Reid’s 8th birthday, he would love it as would Luca but it’s still not realistic.” I couldn’t believe she had entered my name into a trip for two adults and two children to stay at Disneyland for 7 nights all expenses paid and ten thousand dollars spending money. “My car won’t last, and I’m only one adult. I’m not sure I’m ready to do something like this.” I still feared my ex. 

“Maybe my Bo could escort you?” she winked giving him a sharp nudge. “He would love to come, isn’t that right dear? If Jane wants, it’s up to her.”

I made a slight groaning sound, slightly embarrassed from being caught off guard “Umm, well the kids do have a lot of fun with you and in a way, if your mum cannot come then you definitely should. We can get two rooms so you’re not uncomfortable and it would be nice to have a friend on the trip with us, I’d feel safer but then you have work and I cannot ask you to take time from your busy job saving lives. I should give the tickets to someone else who needs them more than I.” I rambled on and on, talking to myself like a crazy person.

I gripped her shoulders lightly. “Jane relax, I’m sure I can get off just tell em when. I haven’t ever been and it sounds fun really.” I looked at mum knowing she was up to something. “Besides until we know for sure what and where your ex is exactly then you shouldn’t be alone.” I was kind of excited but nervous.

“Are you sure because I don’t want to put you out.” I couldn’t believe what happened, that I’d won something like this. “The kids would really love it, and it says we can go whenever.” I looked at him.

I smiled. “You and your kids deserve it. So yeah just let me know when and I’ll let my captain know okay.” I smiled and then went to go walk mum out so she can go to her night out. “That was nice of you to do that for her and the kids. She needs to go and get away not worry about her ex.” I kissed my mums cheek and went back in the house. “You about ready?”

I had our bags and nodded “yes I’m ready.” I said walking out to the car. “So when do you want to go? I can leave whenever so you please decide.” It would be going away, forgetting everything and just hanging out with us as friends. Friends. That’s all he was.

I smiled. “Well with dipshit in town maybe we can go soon maybe two days or so?” I said I wanted her safe and away from him. “Are you sure you want me to go? I mean I know my mum kind of put you on the spot.”

I laughed, that she did. “Honestly, I have no car and I know the kids like you, and I would feel bad if you or your mum didn’t come, I mean she entered me into this competition, which I am surprised since I didn’t see anything in the store about it but I guess it could be nice to go away and do something fun with the kids, they’ve never done anything fun like this and I’m kinda eager to try all the food they have there. Like cinnamon buns and funnel cake.” I smiled, feeling kinda excited. “So yes you’re coming.”

I laughed. “Okay.” I said laughing more at how excited she was. “Are you going to tell them tonight?” I looked at her. As I drove off. She was happy looking. It was nice. We got back to my house and we heard the kids running around before we got to the door. “Hey I asked if you were sure about leaving them with tony!” I laughed.

“As long as they’re laughing I honestly don’t mind, I would give anything to see them this happy all the time.” I smiled at him. Before we went in, I stepped closer to him and wrapped my arms around him “Thankyou so much, Bo. I know I’ve put you out of your comfort zone a lot and I really appreciate your friendship.” I stepped back and smiled, before going inside to tell the kids.

I stood there for a while frozen.  Then shook my head and went inside to find the kids jumping up and down at Jane I looked at tony and he seem relieved we were back.  I raised my chin at him and then went to hear her tell the kids the news.  I knew tony would flip when he heard this too.

“So what do you guys think?” I asked the kids after telling them that we were going to Disneyland “and Bo is coming with us.” 

Tony half choked on his drink and snorted “I’m sorry what?” 

Luca and Reid both looked unsure, then ran up to me with excitement “really? Can we go on rides?” 

“You can go on as many rides as you both want.” I promised. They turned to Bo “youll come on the rides with us too?” 

Tony looked at him and got up walking closer with How voice low “you’re playing with fire. When’s the wedding?”

I ignored tony. “Yeah I’ll go on the rides with you it will be fun!” I said and smiled. “But right now I believe it’s almost bedtime.” I needed to go and be alone and think of all this because tony is right I’m so playing with fire. I hugged little Luca and then fist pumped Reid and went to shower. Tony was in his room now and I stopped. “My mum threw it out there in front of Jane making her feel obligated to take me I told her that she didn’t need to but my mum can’t go so she feels that it’s k my fair I go.” I said and then walked away needing to shower bad.

“Who’s getting married?” I asked walking out in pyjamas, drying my hair with a towel. 

Tony smirked “hey, would you have more kids? Get married again?” 

I looked at him with no emotion “I can’t have anymore children, thanks to the man I married. So no and no.” I rolled my eyes walking back to the bathroom.

Later in the night I felt a little tug on my hand. I opened a eye and it was Luca. “What’s wrong sweets?” She looked at me. “I had a bad dream. Can I sleep up here with you.” I looked at her then nodded. “Grab your blanket.” I said and when she did I picked her up and held her while she dozed off.

I woke up to a very quiet household, surprised the kids weren’t up and making a noise. I walked out to the living room and stopped in the doorway, caught off guard by what I’ve seen. Both kids are in bed with Bo, and they were all fast asleep. I took a photo, smiling to myself and going to make them breakfast.
