“I’m not sure. I do know they kids haven’t asked about the chickens and I don’t want to tell them they burned so let’s say they flew away.” It would only give them nightmares. I called and made an appointment for after lunch. “He said it’s abot Jake.” I said quietly.

I nodded. “Oh, wonder what about him?” I growled hating the guy. “I swear if he is pulling anything on you I’ll kill him Jane!” I said knowing I would to, and they would never find his body!

“He’s dead” I looked at him “he died in the fire, that’s what the police told me when I woke up. They pulled his body from the wreckage the next day.” I should feel relieved but I felt guilty and I hated that. “So the lawyer wants to speak with me and I’m not sure why.”

I looked at her. “That can’t be true! I saw him run out I saw home rum from the house!” I said confused. “I even told a cop to get him!” I looked at her. “Are they sure?”

“I don’t know.” Now I was even more panicked. “Jesus Christ Bo! Why would they tell me he’s dead.” I felt sick.

I shook my head. “I don’t know but we should get to the bottom of this.” I called my friend at the police station and told him we had a meeting with the lawyer and I’d like him and another cop in uniform there for this I told him about my suspicions as wel. “Once we pulled up to the lawyers office and I saw Brady pull up I nodded and got out going to open janes door. “Come on baby let’s see what this is about.”

I was even more nervous, and we walked into the office I noticed the lawyer look confused also. “Jane, I have an envelope to give you. It was dropped off by your ex husband before the fire. My condolences.” He handed it over “he kept it from you, and I hope this brings you peace.” I opened it up, and began to read and my heart sank “Thankyou.” I shoved the paper back inside and stood. “Is that all? Good. Ok let’s go now.” I saod walking out in a rush.

I looked at her. “Jane! Jane!” I called after her. Once I got to the car she was already inside. “Care to tell me what was in that to make you run like that?”

“My parents are dead. The died last year. I didn’t know, and they’ve left me their life savings.” I burst into tears. “I hate him Bo, I fucking hate him.”

I pulled her to me. “Shhh baby.” I held her. “I hate him to. But we don’t have any answers to if he is dead or not. We need to get those so I’m going to take you home to rest and talk to the police about what was said okay. I’ll

“I don’t want to rest. I’m sick of resting Bo. You can’t keep me locked away from the world. I want to play with my kids and take them to and from school.” I hated that I was being restricted. “Let’s just to home, and you can call whoever you need to but you tell me everything and don’t keep things to try protect me.”

Whoa she was upset. “Okay okay, calm down baby I wasn’t meaning anything by that I just with the news and all I just thought you could rest but if you don’t want to then okay and you can even sit with us and talk and hear everything if you’d like..”. I was shocked she was being so high strung

“Just forget it.” I half snapped with annoyance. I just wasn’t in the best of moods and finding out my parents had died just added to my stress and hurt. This year was just getting worse by the second. I silently began to cry after a while of silence “I’m sorry, but I’m just not in the best mood today. Everything is just getting to me and I feel like I’m not coping, like I’m about to have a mental breakdown.”

I sat there. “It’s okay, you have every right to be angry, upset or whatever you want to be.” I started the car. “How about we pick the kids up early and after I talk to the police we go to the zoo?”

“I’d like that a lot. Thankyou.” I smiled, feeling bad but I liked the idea of taking the kids away for something fun. I wanted to ask his mum to watch the kids one evening so we could go have dinner together, somewhere with a bit of romance and relaxation for him and I.

I smiled as I pulled up to the school. “Let’s get our kids!” We walked in and told them we were there to pick up the kids the receptionist was someone I went to school with. “Oh congratulations you two! Bo I never thought I’d see the day but I’m glad you found Jane! So when are you due Jane?

I looked at her confused, how did she know? Has he told her. “Just before Christmas, still a little while to go.” I wanted the kids to know before everyone else.

She smiled “that’s lovely I’m due around then to, you have that glow.” She looked at no then back. “Sorry I’m overstepping it’s just I haven’t told anyone but my husband and I can feel you haven’t either and I got excited!”

I laughed and put my arm around Jane. “No we haven’t and we would appreciate it if you don’t say anything we would like to tell the kids today at the zoo!”

“Why did you have to tell her all that? She doesn’t need to know we’re going to the zoo or telling the kids about the baby.” I asked when we went to the waiting room “you were even smiling at her.” I pointed out.

I looked at Jane. “Are you jealous baby? Because let me tell you, you have nothing to be jealous of. You my lovely are everything I need. I love you we are a family and a growing one at that.” I place my hand on her belly. “What’s it matter if she knows she can’t do anything about it.”

“I just hate how everyone looks at you like they want to fuck you.” I sighed, placing my hand over his and looking at him “I love you, maybe instead of the zoo we go and talk to the kids about looking for a new house.”

I smiled. “Okay whatever you want and trust me she doesn’t want me she loves her husband who is my friend the cop!” I laughed. “They are good people real good people. Don’t worry so much baby.”

Well that just pissed me off even more. “Of course, I’m just crazy and insecure aren’t I.” I sat up, holding my arms out when the kids running out happily. “Oh I’ve missed you both so much.”

Well fuck I just can’t seem to say anything right at the moment. I’m so I’ll just keep my mouth shut and let her tell the kids whatever it is she wants.

It was the most uncomfortable silence between us on the drive back to his mums house. The kids went and changed and I made them some lunch in the kitchen. They came running out excitedly and we all sat in the living room “we have a little bit of news.. Bo and I, were going to be having a baby. Either a brother or a sister for you.” 

They smiled but then Luca asked Bo “when did you have sex?”
