I laughed “its ok, my husband can go get me one later.” I grinned “better step up your a game mr cook.” I smiled even more, rubbing his arm.

After my shower, I dressed and tied my hair up, pulling on my warm coat and gloves, I walked down to them “I’m ready when you are.”

I held her not knowing what to say. I just need to be here for her. “How about I call your brother I know your making the excuse of the time difference but it needs to be talked about our other kids could be in danger baby.” I hated to say it but I needed to.

I nodded knowing he was right “ok.” I agreed, holding him tightly. “I just.. are you sure that’s his body? That was in the fire? What if it wasn’t?” I was so worried.

I kissed her hard. “Baby James and I was there when the they made sure it was him.” I held her tight. “If it makes you feel better I’ll have James get a private investigator to look into it.”

I laughed. “Yeah don’t expect it to happen much baby.” I kissed her and we got into the car I called James first and then her brother. “Yeah I know what time it is there, your nephew just got out of surgery, he was shot by someone who clams to be the son of chars ex and get this yours an dchars sister care to explain?”

“Oh fuck.” The line went silent. “Shit shit. I didn’t think she would do something this crazy!” He groaned. “Yes we have a sister who was crazy about your ex.. they were fucking on the side, I know I should have told you but I didn’t want to hurt you even more with what James done to you. The kid, he’s a psychopath.”

I stayed silent. “No shit they are all psychos! The bastard beat char! Raped her! Hurt her! Then this crazy ass sister joins him! The kid shots our son his own cousin who knows if he will wal again which means he may never play soccer and you thought it was better not to tell char about her!” I was pissed. “I’m not perfect but this this is bad.”

When he hung up, I knew my brother didn’t really care. “Wow.” I sighed. “This just goes from good to worse- pull over!” I pointed to the in and out burger place “I want a Big Mac and gravy fries please.”

I nodded. I pulled over and ordered her food then headed to the hospital as we got to Finns room I sat down and looked him over. “Fuck I’m so sorry I didn’t protect us! I didn’t protect him. I should have been the one not Finn.”

“And why would you wish that? It could have been Lily if she wasn’t mad at me.. she ordered the food. I could have answered the door if I wasn’t feeding, it could have been any of us.” I sighed sadly. “My heart is broken for him.”

“Because this shouldn’t have happened to him he has his whole life baby, it shouldn’t have happened period but it did and I hate that it was him or could have been you or any of the other kids. I’ve been through a lot I could have handled this better.”

“You don’t get it, I can’t do this without you. I need you Tanner, we may fight and have bad days but that doesn’t mean that I don’t need you. I can’t live if you’re not around. I’ve experienced life without you, and trust me. It isn’t fun.” I sat down, taking Finns hand and squeezing.

“Baby that’s not what I meant I just meant that it shouldn’t have been the kids. I could of come out of this better then he will, he is going to be devasted baby.” That’s going to break me.”

“I know.” I whispered. “He’s got a whole life, bound by a wheelchair and being babied like he hates. We need to make sure his new room is going to be accessible for him, same with the house, although it’s quite open so that’s a good thing.” I hated it. He was going to hate being changed and helped in the bath and shower.

The nurse Cake in she was a pretty little thing. She gave a small smile. “Hello mr And Mrs cook, my name is ally and I’ll be here for Finn, I’m so sorry about what happened but from what I seen in the charts they have high hopes for him and if I remember from school he is strong and will overcome this.” She blushed and I looked over at char this girl likes our boy. “Thank you ally, you went to school with our quads?” She nodded yeah but they probably would recognize me I was a bit of a bookworm.”

“History repeating itself.” I murmured to myself. “Of course he will overcome it. He’s a strong boy.” I said not taking my eyes off him. “He’s got a lot of fight in him, just like his dad.” I sat back and unintentionally placed a hand over my stomach.

I smiled at her wondering what she meant by history repeating itself.

“Well I’m here if you need anything-“. She glanced at her hand on her belly. “I can do a scan for you too if you want.” She said smiling. “I graduated early from high school and started my nursing right away now I’m trying to get into on nursing.” She smiled shyly. “Sorry I’m over stepping I’m so sorry, just let me know if you need anything.”

“Thankyou.” I said quietly. “But we’re good for now.” I fought onto the tears as I silently prayed for him to wake up. “Did you call Lily and see how she’s getting on with Lenny?”

I shook my head. “No not yet. He should have just ate I figured I’d wait till I know when he will shit and then call.” I laughed and got a smile from char. “That nurse seems nice”

“Yeah she does.” I looked at him. “My son is in hospital. The last thing I’m interested in is you playing matchmaker because you think she’s pretty.” I looked away with a sigh

I laughed. “I’m not playing matchmaker baby, I just said she seemed nice I mean she even offered to give you scan. That’s all.” I looked at Finn. “When did the doctor say he will wake up I can’t remember ?”

“Yes and I have a very good doctor who knows my history with miscarriages and stillbirths.” I reminded. “He’s sleeping it off, should be the next day or so.” I brushed my fingers through his hair “and then I can kick his ass about the tattoo he’s got without telling me.” I smiled.

I laughed. “Hey he is of age what are you going to do when lily gets one. She keeps mentioning it you know.” God She was definitely pregnant with a girl with her moodiness. I smiled at the thought. “I love you.” I said smiling at her.

“I love you too. And I told lily she could get one, I’m going with her. Who knows. I might get one as well.” I smiled. “Maybe a tramp stamp.”

I shook my head. “You get anything it’s my fucking name baby!” I smiled. “I’m sure she would love that.” I leaned over and kissed her. “I need a coffee you want anything?”
